M/other brings together artworks by 10 contemporary artists from Aotearoa that reflect on diverse experiences of motherhood. 

From 10 am - 12 pm on Tuesday, 7 May, the gallery will also be hosting a knitting session. Interested members of the public are invited to pick up some knitting needles and take part. Parents, in particular, are encouraged to come along. "I've got fond memories of hearing the clickity-clack of my grandmother’s metal knitting needles, it's a skill that I've yet to master," says Exhibitions Curator Sarah Hudson. "The gallery is a space for our community, I hope this knitting event can encourage people to come together and share time and skills."

The knitting session at Te Kōputu is free to attend and child-friendly. Participants can bring their own projects, or start from scratch using basic materials provided at the event. Helpful experts from Edgecumbe Women's Institute will be available to answer any questions and teach some knitting basics; knitters of all skill levels and experience are welcome. Pom-pom making will also be on offer for the littlies. Curator Sarah Hudson will also be available to answer any questions about the artworks in M/other. No bookings required.
