A public display of the pontoon wharf proposed for Quay Street in Whakatāne will be held at Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi – the Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre – between 22 September and 3 October 2014.

A 160 metre-long floating pontoon wharf extending from the Visitor Information Centre across the Wairere Stream mouth and ending 10 metres before the Te Toka o Taio reef has been proposed to meet demand for berths in the Whakatāne River. The projected facility will be accessed from Quay Street via three gangways linking the existing walkway to the pontoon.

The public display on the proposed wharf is being organised by the Whakatāne District Council and Opus International Consultants Ltd and staff members from the two organisations will be available to answer questions on Thursday 25 September from 12-2 pm and 3:30-4:30 pm.

The display will include computer-generated visualisations of the wharf, a plan and cross section of the development, and response forms for public feedback.
