Punters at a food stall

Selling food at an event

If you will be providing food to spectators at no cost then there is no need to advise us. It is, however, good practice to follow MPI’s food safety guidelines:

Food Vendors

As the event organiser you need food vendors to provide their current food registration certificates. Please forward this information to the Reserves & Bookings Administrator at Whakatāne District Council for processing.  If you plan on having a large number of food sellers and/or high-risk foods (such as seafood) at your event, we suggest you book an appointment with a Health Officer to talk about what standards are required to comply with the Food Act.

Food Stalls

To have a food stall at an organised event or similar (i.e. at a hall or on a hired Council Reserve), contact us to request a Food Stall Permit.

If you are planning to have a food stall on the street outside retailers or other businesses, then you must get written permission from the business owner(s). Street stall applications can be submitted directly to the Environmental Health Team.
