The current dry conditions are steadily reducing the capacity of our District's water supply systems. There are currently no formal restrictions in place.

A new water main has been laid in the Western Drain Road area corner Awakeri Road by Council’s contractor, Ōpōtiki Drainlayers. To enable the connection works to the existing Awakeri Road water main, the contractor will be isolating the water supply in the area between the hours above.

All the timber around the outside of Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre will be washed and re-stained. The work will start on Sunday, 28 October and will go through to Monday and possibly Tuesday. We'll be staining the main entrance outside of our opening hours but the after-hours returns slot might be out of action for a couple of hours on Monday/Tuesday. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

On 1 July 2018, the Whakatāne District Council's Traffic and Speed Limits Bylaw 2018 came into force. The following speed limit changes are incorporated in the Traffic and Speeds Bylaw 2018.

Whakatāne District Council has prepared a Summary of Decisions Requested on Proposed Plan Change 2 to the Whakatāne District Plan. This plan change seeks to rezone 23 and 45 Keepa Road, Whakatāne, from Light Industrial to Residential. Further submissions are now sought on the submissions that have been made.
