Some elevated properties in Appleby Rise, Appenzell Drive (other than what's mentioned above), The Green, and The Fairway may experience low pressure but will continue to have water during this time.

Sections of Ngā Tapuwae o Toi walking track closed

Sections of Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, 1 October), from 7.30am to 5pm, to allow for urgent repair work on the wastewater pipe which is located alongside the Wairere Stream.

As a result of the resignation of a member, an extraordinary vacancy has occurred in the Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision) of Whakatāne District Council.

Under section 120 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, notice is given that on Wednesday 5 June 2024, a by-election will be held under the first past the post electoral system by postal vote for one member
of the Murupara Community Board (Galatea-Waiōhau Subdivision).

Whakatāne District Council advises that dye testing of the treated wastewater ocean outfall pipeline offshore from Ohuirehe Road will take place on Thursday, 1 February between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The testing will be conducted with contrast dye and drone inspection in accordance with the provisions of the Regional Natural Resources Plan (Rule DW R2).

Kōpeopeo Service Lane (between James Street and Kōpe Super Liquor), is currently undergoing significant upgrades and layout changes. 

This work includes channel drain works, re-sealing, line marking and parking adjustments and a change to the current layout which will see the Kōpe Super Liquor end changed to exit only.

Whakatāne District Council maintains a register of all parking restrictions, prohibitions, and limitations. There has been several parking improvements and demands identified and introduced throughout the District, primarily to effectively manage traffic flow, enhance safety and provide equitable access to parking for the Public. The lists of the amended parking register is outlined below and now enforceable following the approval from Council on it meeting last 13 April 2023.

Catchments are currently saturated following heavy rain, and with more in the forecast we are asking you to be alert for any signs of instability near cliffs and steep slopes (escarpments). This includes movements of trees or the slope, cracks in the earth, ground slumpage, or dislodged boulders suspended in vegetation on the escarpment face.


Council recommends keeping a close eye on escarpments nearby and following the below precautions:
